Nina King Landuyt was a resident of Poplar Bluff during the 1940's and attended the Butler County Centennial Parade in 1949. She took a large number of photographs of the parade participants and documented the event in this excellent photo scrapbook.
Mrs. Landuyt was married to her first husband, Chilton King, when she took these photos and made the book. She later married Raymond W. Landuyt after the death of Mr. King. Ray Landuyt was originally from Bloomfield and operated a UPS/Fed Ex business on S. Broadway and was also in the asphalt business.
Mrs. Landuyt, at the age of 87, was a volunteer at the VA Hospitial in Poplar Bluff in 2002.
The photo book is on display at the Poplar Bluff Museum. Copies of the photos are located in the BCHS Photo Galleries labeled 1949 Butler County Centennial Parade. Enjoy these photos and please leave comments about the various floats, bands, etc. and help us identify people in the photos wherever possible.
